Chapter 4

Sade went ahead and followed DeAndre back to his apartment. To be honest, it was her first real time really going inside of the Oak Park projects. Sure, all of her life she had known where they were and essentially what they were about. There had been a few times they made the news for a couple of big Memphis drug busts, some murders, and gang violence, but she’d never actually stepped foot inside of them. Sade’s only read exposure to Oak Park had been at John Davis Park on the Saturdays that Nat and his team played again DeAndre’s and his and from the times in the past where she would ride by this headed somewhere.

When they pulled into the parking lot, she was careful where she parked her car and she made sure to look around and take in her surroundings. It was the late afternoon on a Monday, so it wasn’t too much going on outside. Either a lot of people were at work, for those who worked, or they were out and about doing whatever it is people who live in projects do. She drove passed a lot of the kids who lived in Oak Park on the way in to the parking lot. They played curb ball or other games in fields and whatnot along the way, moving out of the way of cars then congregating back in the streets.

DeAndre was practically smiling the entire drive from the park to Oak Park. In so many ways, Sade hitting him up on Facebook was too good to be true. In reality though, since he had laid eyes on her, he had wanted to smash and right now he was so sure he had finally gotten his chance. The way she was giving him the eye when the two of them were talking said it all to him. She even went as far as walking close to him and sitting close to him as well when they were sitting on the bench. Above all that, though, he was convinced that this chick was feeling him way more than she could have ever been feeling Nat and he was going to enjoy every single minute of it. Today would be his lucky day, he thought. A couple of days ago, I beat the niggas ass right in this very parking lot and now I got his chick coming back to my place so I can put this dick up in her.

DeAndre walked Sade inside, into his apartment. To her surprise, the inside of the project buildings were a lot nicer than the outsides. The outsides were identical brick building, much like projects in any major city or town. However, the inside had clean white walls, relatively modern appliances, and the rooms appeared to be rather spacious.

Being as hospitable as he could, DeAndre opened the door and walked Sade inside of his apartment.

“Come right on in, sexy,” he said. “This is the crib.”

Sade looked around. DeAndre’s furniture was realtively on point.
